Young Professionals Program
A new program geared for young professionals will be offered at the 2011 ACC/AAAE Airport Planning, Design & Construction Symposium to be held February 23-25 in Denver, Colorado. The program will include a reception, valuable networking opportunities, a contest and prizes. Young professionals are defined by the Symposium Committee as being in their 20’s and 30’s and actively working on aviation-related projects.
ACC member Faith Varwig, principal of the Faith Group LLC, is spearheading the program. “The hardest part about getting into the industry is getting to know the people. Our younger colleagues need to know who the industry leaders are, what the issues are, what networking opportunities exist and how they can broaden their horizons”, says Varwig.
The Young Professionals Program will host a welcome reception from 6-7p.m. on Tuesday, February 22 at Katie Mullen’s Irish Pub adjacent to the Sheraton Downtown Denver Hotel. The reception will provide opportunities to meet with ACC and AAAE leadership and board members as well as networking with peers and seasoned veterans alike.
The program will sponsor a contest that will encourage participants to attend various symposium workshops, to ask questions at workshops and to meet ACC and AAAE members. Contest prizes will include free 2012 Symposium registration, an opportunity to have 300-word article published in Airport Consulting, as well as exciting prizes donated by program sponsors.
According to Don Bergin, chair of the 2011 symposium, “the idea of this program is to offer a fun way for young professionals to better establish themselves in the industry. The symposium is the optimal venue since it is a highly technical airport industry event that also offers substantial networking opportunities with professionals active in many different sectors of our industry.”
