General Information

The American Association of Airport Executives, in cooperation with the law firm of Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell LLP and the International Municipal Lawyers Association, is pleased to present the 26th Annual Basics of Airport Law Workshop and 2010 Legal Update, September 12-14, 2010, at The Dupont Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The workshop remains the only opportunity for those new to airport law, or new to specific legal issues, to gain an authoritative presentation of this complex subject. While other conferences may touch on hot topics, only this workshop combines a thorough review of the fundamentals of airport law with an update on recent developments. This review is supplied by government attorneys from DOT, FAA and TSA, and other seasoned practitioners with years of experience and in-depth understanding of the federal rules applicable to public-use airports. AAAE holds this workshop in the nation's capital every few years to ensure a high level of participation by federal officials.

The workshop is taught in plain English and is not limited to lawyers. If you are involved in any aspect of meeting DOT/FAA or DHS/TSA requirements concerning, for example, capital projects, contracts and leases, grant assurance compliance or airport security, this workshop would benefit you. Lawyers, airport managers, airport users and others involved in the regulatory aspects of the industry will find the presentations beneficial. The sessions are organized by discrete topics, with many sessions serving as building blocks for subsequent sessions.

The workshop is a terrific value because of the comprehensive overview of airport legal issues provided in a relatively short amount of time. In addition, attorneys can earn CLE credits by attending this workshop. An added value of the workshop for all attendees is the comprehensive workbook created each year to address new developments in airport law. Each attendee takes this workbook home to refer to and use throughout the year.

As in the past, there will be a choice to attend either a basics or advanced session for several topics. The basics sessions provide a detailed primer for those new to specific issues and those seeking a refresher. In the advanced session, the faculty will probe deeper into the same discrete topics, with particular emphasis on recent cases, rulemaking, and new and emerging programs and policies. The workshop also includes multiple choices for break-out sessions that will provide attendees with specific tools for tackling difficult regulatory issues.

The workshop is one of a kind and offered just once a year. Don't miss your chance to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to gain valuable insight and information that you can put to use immediately at your place of business.

All sessions will take place at The Dupont Hotel, conveniently located in Dupont Circle. The workshop will begin with an "Introduction to Airport Law" from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, followed by the opening reception from 6-7 p.m. The workshop will conclude at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14. Registration fees include the reception, two continental breakfasts, two lunches, all refreshment breaks and course materials. Dress is business casual (no ties).
