The Bird Strike Committee USA/Canada (www.birdstrike.org) and the American Association of Airport Executives have teamed up again to offer the 12th Annual Joint Meeting of the Bird Strike Committee USA/Canada. Hosted by Salt Lake City International Airport, this year's meeting will be in a great location to bring together wildlife experts and airport officials from across the U.S., Canada and abroad. Each year wildlife personnel face the problem of how to best manage birds and other wildlife while balancing environmental concerns with the safety of airport patrons. This is a great opportunity to learn not only what options are available in wildlife management, but also what others in the industry are doing to manage the same dilemma.
Who Should Attend?
This meeting will be of particular interest to military and civilian personnel responsible for airfield operations, wildlife and wetland resource managers, land-use planners, FAA inspectors, university researchers, engineers, pilots, aviation representatives, waste management operators and anyone interested in mitigating bird strikes.
Program
The meeting kicks off with a special "Early Bird" hands-on training session (limited to 150 people) that demonstrates various methods for capture/dispersal of wildlife. The general program includes papers, posters and demonstrations on wildlife control techniques, new technologies, land-use issues (landfill/wetlands), engineering standards, wildlife strike statistics, interagency coordination and habitat control. From 12:30-5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, there will be a field trip to Salt Lake City International Airport to examine wildlife issues.
