AAAE welcomed more than 160 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) personnel, airport GIS managers, consultants and vendors to the 13th Annual Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Conference and Exhibition held March 21-24 in San Antonio, Texas, making it the largest airport GIS conference to date.
James M. Crites, Executive Vice President Operations at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, delivered a special presentation entitled “An Airport Perspective of Graphical Intelligence Systems.” Mr. Crites, who was the highest-level executive from a large-hub airport to deliver a presentation in conference history, urged his counterparts at airports of all sizes to learn about the cost-effectiveness, accuracy and speed of GIS and how it helps daily airport operations.
Another highlight of the conference was a series of presentations delivered by the FAA, Valley International and Cotulla-La Salle County airports, as well as consultants, on the FAA’s Airports GIS Program. Additional airports presenting at the conference included Avinor (Norwegian airports), Boston Logan, Los Angeles, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles.
Other conference topics included Reliability of GIS with Sub-Surface Utility Engineering, Construction and Environmental Planning with GIS, and Improved Airport Operations through Spatial Data Management.
AAAE would like to thank the conference sponsors: San Antonio International Airport, AECOM, CDM, Eagle Integrated Solutions, Jacobs, PSMOAS and Woolpert. AAAE would also like to thank the exhibitors, who numbered twice as many as the 2009 conference: AECOM, Aero-Metric, Aviation GIS, Azteca Systems, Blue Marble Geographics, Eagle Integrated Solutions, ESRI, Geodetix, GEO-Jobe Consulting, Michael Baker Jr., Munsys, Photo Science, Pictometry International, So-Deep, W.K.
