General Information

The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and the City of Chicago Department of Aviation invite you to the “Airports Going Green” Conference, August 5-7, 2009, at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, Illinois.

This conference is important for the aviation industry because it covers the diverse field of sustainable environmental design and construction initiatives and standards, unique to an airport environment. The lineup of presenters will come from all arenas in the aviation industry: airport management, engineering, regulatory, construction, academia, and media.

Day one of the conference (August 5) will feature the City of Chicago’s O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP) and its environmental and sustainable design and construction initiatives for all facets of airport development, which are at the forefront of the aviation industry and are setting the standard for “green” airport design and construction in the U.S. Case studies will be used to highlight how the City of Chicago was able to take environmentally sustainable airport design and construction techniques from vision to reality. In addition, the newly updated Sustainable Design Manual and its rating system will be featured, along with associated programs to educate and inform designers and contractors about the process, technical details and required mitigation standards for construction.

Day two of the conference (August 6) will feature nationally and internationally recognized leaders in airport recycling initiatives, use of emerging technologies, such as green roofs, wind turbines and photo-voltaics, and the design, construction and commissioning of LEED-certified Terminals. Airline perspectives on environmental sustainability at airports will be featured, along with a diverse mix of perspectives from an international mix of industry partners.

Day three (August 7) includes an O’Hare airfield tour of construction sites and recently completed features. Space for the tour is limited, so please be sure to indicate your attendance on the registration form.

This conference is designed to bring together the integral players from many different sectors of the aviation industry, including, but not limited to, FAA, airports, universities, consultants, equipment manufacturers, construction professionals, regulators and service providers. This conference also provides great sponsorship opportunities for anyone interested. This is an ideal way to show your commitment to the industry.

All sessions will take place at the Fairmont Chicago. The conference will begin on Wednesday, August 5, at 8:30 a.m. (registration and continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m.) and will end at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 6. The airport tour begins at 9 a.m. (departing hotel at 8 a.m.) on Friday, August 7, and will conclude at 12 p.m. Registration fees include the reception, two continental breakfasts, two lunches, all refreshment breaks, the airport tour and course materials.
