The Bird Strike Committee USA/Canada and the American Association of Airport Executives have teamed up again to bring you the 10th Annual Joint Meeting of the Bird Strike Committee USA/Canada, August 18-21, 2008. Graciously hosted by Orlando Sanford International Airport, this year’s meeting will bring together wildlife experts and airport officials from across the U.S., Canada and abroad.
Program
The meeting kicks off Monday, August 18th with a special “Early Bird” hands-on training session (limited to 150 people) that demonstrates various methods for capture/dispersal of wildlife. The general program includes papers, posters and demonstrations on wildlife control techniques, new technologies, land-use issues (landfill/wetlands), engineering standards, wildlife strike statistics, interagency coordination and habitat control.
During the afternoon on Wednesday, August 20th, attendees will take a field trip to Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) to examine wildlife issues. On Friday, August 22nd, there will be a post conference tour to Kennedy Space Center (subject to the Shuttle launch schedule) where the use of bird-detecting radar will be demonstrated. The tour will be limited to the first 200 people to sign up and the last day for sign up will be on August 7th . Buses will leave Lake Mary at 8:00 a.m. and return about 2:00 p.m. (at least 1 bus will drop attendees at Orlando International).
