The airport also served as a popular location for Hollywood movie-making and later became a vital defense manufacturing center and military base during World War II. Today, VNY is home to nearly 800 aircraft on 730 acres of land, with nearly 400,000 operations per year. The airport is a vital economic engine, contributing $1.3 billion annually to the Southern California economy and supporting 12,300 jobs. The airport is also home to fire, police and medical emergency flights that provide life-saving services to the community and the location of one of California’s top aircraft mechanics schools.
