Knowledgeable airport guides will take you on a journey through aviation past and present as you discover Van Nuys Airport’s (VNY) rich history, witness daily operations and view a variety of based aircraft, from vintage warbirds to state-of-the art corporate jets. Founded on December 17, 1928 – the 25th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first powered flight - VNY was a place where aviation pioneers such as Amelia Earhart and Pancho Barnes set world speed records and let their dreams take flight. The airport also served as a popular location for Hollywood movie-making and later became a vital defense manufacturing center and military base during World War II. Today, VNY is home to nearly 800 aircraft on 730 acres of land, with nearly 400,000 operations per year. The airport is a vital economic engine, contributing $1.3 billion annually to the Southern California economy and supporting 12,300 jobs. The airport is also home to fire, police and medical emergency flights that provide life-saving services to the community and the location of one of California’s top aircraft mechanics schools. Space is limited, please be sure to check the “Airport Tour” box on your registration form to experience the airport that spans the realm of aviation and plays a vital role in the nation’s air transportation system.
